Indian sportsstars had Gold in breakfast, create records in World University Games
It was another fascinating day at World University Games 2023 where Indian superstars have broken records of last all editions combined. On Day 3, India won total 6 medals including 4 Gold. Just to put it to perspective, before 2023 edition, India has only won 6 Gold medals till date in World university Games and India has already beaten total tally of 30 editions in just 3 days. As per current tally, India stands at 9 Gold, 3 Silver and 5 Bronze medals and is at 4th position across all countries.
Indian 10m Air Rifle shooters created fire in the shooting range with his performance
Day started with trio of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Arjun Babuta and Divyansh Panwar breathing fire in the shooting range. In the qualifying round Indians took 2nd, 3rd and 4th position in the qualifying round and winning team Gold by some margin. It was so one sided domination that Chinese team who won silver were distant by 13 points, a margin which is lesser than Gold medalist and last ranked shooter in Olympics. Aishwary continued his great form from yesterday and won his third Gold medal of the games making him the best athlete of the game till now for India. Divyansh Panwar strengthened his name as one of the top most rifle shooter of India by taking silver medal. Had it not been a bad start from Arjun Babuta in first round, We would have seen a Podium finish by Indians.
Indian compound archers made the day sweeter by winning another 2 Gold and 1 Bronze
Sangampreet Bisla continued his great form from yesterday and won the Gold medal in a close final with South Africa by margin of 149-147. Before Sangampreet, Aman has already won bronze medal for India in Men compound Archery individual event by defeating Victor Bouleau of France by 148-146. This was Aman's third medal in the games. Had it been a better tie, we could have had all Indian final as Sangampreet and Aman were against each other in first final with both scoring 147. Only tie-break shot could differentiate them and Aman had to be satisfied with Bronze medal. In another dominant match by India's upcoming star Avneet Kaur, she defeated Sturgill of USA in a tense finish of 144-144 with tie determining Gold medal winner.
However, besides Archery and Shooting, Indians had a poor show in other sports in the day.
Indian shuttlers had a very mixed day. Indian Badminton mixed team lost their group match with Korea by 4-1 but won by 5-0 against Ukraine. As Indians had lost their opening group match against Japan by 4-1, It all boils down to final day battle against Switzerland tomorrow morning. However, due to strong losses against Japan and Korea, it seems near impossible for Indians to qualify for Quarterfinals.
Indian paddlers also had a disappointing day in Table Tennis court. Indian women team lost their team quarterfinal game to Hongkong by 3-0 and Men team were beaten by Chinese Taipei by 3-0. In singles, Indians had a mixed day in both Men and Women category but it is expected that out of 5 single players in both men and women category, Minimum 3 in each section will qualify for next round.
Indian judokas and Taekwondo players disappointed on Day 3 and all of them lost in their respective matches.
Though day did not end in the way Indians started the day, There remains a lot of events to look forward to on Day 4 whose schedule will be published on your own page "India at Sports"
Keep reading, keep supporting Indian superstars....
