Shooting created sparks in World University Games for India; Faced disappointment in other sports

India again had a strong morning in World University Games 2023 on Day 4. As predicted in my yesterday's blog that India will win 4 medals on the Day 4, India won 4 medals including 2 Gold medals on Day 4. Indian Shooters won 2 Golds, 1 Silver and 1 bronze in the day. Here are all our heroes who made it big on the stage:

Sift Kaur continued her great form from ISSF Shooting world cup to World university games where she upgraded the color of medal from Bronze to Two Golds. However, Day also saw a disappointment in Shooting in 25m Women Pistol event where favourites like Manu Bhaker and Chinki Yadav missed out of podium finish in both Team and Individual event. It was surprising as Manu was already in great form in tournament.

In Badminton, Indian Mixed team could not qualify for Quarterfinals despite winning against Switzerland by 5-0 as India had already lost key matches against Korea and Japan. Indians will now present their challenge in Singles event in upcoming days. Indian Judo team also lost their team matches in opening rounds only leaving an overall tally of 1 Bronze from Judo event. This has been a remarkable tally as this will be first time where India won a medal at World muli-sport events at this level.

In Table Tennis, India had a mixed day winning few Group round matches. At the end of the day, we have qualified for Mixed Doubles Round of 64 - One team, Men Doubles Round of 64 - One Team and One team in Women Doubles Round of 64. Indians have also qualified for Women Singles Round of 64 (3 players) and Men Singles Round of 64 (5 players). Our stars will be playing for Round of 64 and Round of 32 tomorrow.

In Athletics, India had a poor day. We could not qualify in the finals of Women's 400m, Women's Shotput, Men 100m, Men 400m and other events. We had few shining light in the day though. Bhagwati Bhavani Yadav qualified for Finals of Women Long Jump. Tejaswin Shankar, as expected, qualified in High Jump finals. Avantika qualified for Women 100m semifinals.

Among other sports, Indians lost their opening bouts in Taekwondo. In Tennis, we lost our Women doubles second round but won Women singles in which Sravya Shivani will fight in third round tomorrow. In all other events of Tennis, our representation has ended. In swimming, we have lost in all events we participated.

While our shooters were great in overall tournament, We only have one more day of Shooting events left and it remains to be seen that what other sports will spike for Indian athletes post Shooting and Archery. Till now, Indians have faced disappointment in other sports. With Athletics starting, we can hope for a lot of good news in upcoming days. I will be publishing the schedule for tomorrow in some time and will add my predictions.

In my summary, events to looked upto in next few days are going to come from grounds of Athletics, Shooting, Badminton and Table Tennis. We may see few surprises in Fencing as well. Overall, it had been a great season of World University Games and India should keep their heads high to win double digits gold medals already which is more than nearly double of gold medals in last 30 years. We need your support to cheer up our athletes..

Till then, Keep cheering for India and Keep reading... Jai ho...
